Argentina's Transport Minister has announced a crackdown on train drivers in Buenos Aires after CCTV cameras caught them sleeping, reading books and using their mobile phones while behind the wheel.

Florencio Randazzo said conductors would now need to pass physicals to ensure they do not fall asleep as well as new exams and more training.

The capital's rail network has been criticised in recent years for its poor conditions and a lack of investment.

In June, at least three passengers were killed and more than 200 injured in a train crash, while last year, 50 people were killed and more than 700 were injured when a packed commuter train ploughed into a rail terminus at rush hour
