American Rock legend Lou Reed has died at the age of 71, according to a report in Rolling Stone Magazine. The cause of his death has not been released.
In the 1960s, Reed's Velvet Underground became one of the most influential in bands in rock - by fusing art and music in collaboration with artist Andy Warhol.
Reed went onto further success in his solo career - achieving his most commercial hit with 1972's 'Take a Walk on the Wild Side', co-produced by David Bowie.
Rolling Stone writes that musical genres such as "glam, punk and alternative rock" would all have been "unthinkable" without Reed's example.
Referring to his pared-back guitar style, Reed himself once said, "one chord is fine, two chords are pushing it."
